Smith's fracture

A distal radius fracture

Smith's fracture is a fracture of the distal part of the radius. It is the opposite of a Colles fracture. It occurs by falling on the dorsal side of the hand in palmar flexion. The distal fracture fragment is dislocated ventrally.

The treatment is reposition similar to the one in Colles fracture, however the fragment should be pushed dorsally, the limb should be then immobilized in a plaster cast, but in slight dorsiflexion.
