The basic principle in endocrine regulation is feedback. The most common type is negative feedback, when the induced change will reduce the activity of the system.
Simple feedback
hormone production is regulated by hormone-induced changes in blood chemistry:
- blood glucose (insulin and glucagon),
- calcemia (calcitonin and PTH),
- natremia (aldosterone).
Complex feedback
Hormone production is regulated by the concentration of the hormone in the peripheral blood, it applies mainly to hormones that are influenced by a superior endocrine gland:
