In vitro cultivation
'In vitro cultivation' of microorganisms on media intended for this purpose in artificial, laboratory conditions.
- Cultivation - growing microorganisms on artificial media. During cultivation, the germs multiply, which allows to dermine their species. Cultivation is part of microbiological examination of urine examination, blood, mucus, pus, effusion fluid, skin swabs and the like.
- In vitro - Latin for "in glass", ie in a test tube, under artificial or laboratory conditions. For example, in tests of the effects of chemicals on a living organism, the effects are first examined on a culture of cells grown in a test tube. Another example is the in vitro fertilization "test tube baby".
