Granuloma inguinale

Template:Infobox - disease Granuloma inguinale (also known as donovanosis) is a sexually transmitted disease of an ulcer nature. Caused by the bacterium Klebsiella granulomatis (formerly called Donovania, then Calymmatobacterium granulomatis). It occurs mainly in the tropics and subtropics.

Clinical picture[edit | edit source]

It manifests as a creeping ulcer with a hypertrophic base. As the disease progresses, it spreads to the surroundings, scars and causes mutilation of the affected areas.

Treatment[edit | edit source]

Doxycycline, erythromycin for 2 weeks. Treatment leads to healing.
