Intraarticular fracture of the distal radius

AO classification

Type A

• Extra articular;

A1 – without dislocation

A2 – with dislocation;

• Extension – Colles fracture

• Flexion – Smith's fracture.

Type B

• Partially intra-articular;

B1 – sagittal

B2 – dorsal edge avulsion – Barton type I.

B3 – volar edge avulsion – Barton type II..

Type C

• intra-articular comminuted (splinter) – Melon fracture.

Complications

• Sudeck's morbus (Sudeck's algodystrophy syndrome)

• carpal tunnel syndrome.
