Musculus mentalis

Beginning: mandibula from the edges of the roots of the external incisors
Insertion: skin of the lip
Innervation:: n. facialis
Function: retracts the skin sulcus mentolabialis
- if the muscle is opened more cranially, the lower vestibulum oris becomes shallow and the pull of the lower lip mucosa causes the gums to detach from the necks of the incisors - promoting the development of periodontosis.
