Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints.
Do not confused with systemic vasculitis- arteritis (inflammation of medium and small arteries).

In terms of etiology:[edit | edit source]
- infectious,
- non-infectious.
In terms of the number of affected joints:[edit | edit source]
- monoarthritis – one joint affected,
- polyarthritis – more joints affected.
In terms of affected joint:[edit | edit source]
- coxitis – inflammation of the hip joint,
- gonitis – inflammation of the knee joint,
- omarthritis – inflammation of the shoulder joint.
