Hyperkeratosis (up) a akantosis (down) in lichen simplex chronicus

Expansion of the epidermis caused by cell proliferation stratum spinosum.[1] It can occur as a reaction to chronic irritation - inflammatory processes, tumors.

It is one of the histopathological findings in lichen ruber planus.
