Tapotement

Tap the kidneys with the fingertips of your hand. It normally should be painless. If pain is felt it is a positive sign.
- Unilaterally positive for acute pyelonephritis, perinephritis (Also if infiltration of the surrounding is present).
- Bilaterally positive for glomerulonephritis, bilateral pyelonephritis (obstructive uropathy).
