Pericardial window

From WikiLectures

Pericardial window is a surgery where pericardium is resected and fistula with pleural cavity (thoracoscopy or anterolateral thoracotomy) or fistula with peritoneal cavity is made (small incision subxiphoideally). This procedure is usually performed on patients with malignant diseases (metastases ad pericardium) when even recurrent punctures didn't help with re-forming pericardial fluid. Therefore, this procedure is ultimum refugium decision.[1]
