Garden's classification - scheme

Garden's classification ( I–IV ) describes femoral neck fractures according to the degree of their dislocation in the AP projection . In the head and metaphysis of the femur, the course of the beam and their mutual angle are evaluated.

• I – incomplete fracture (wedge, abduction), direction of beams intact
• II – complete fracture, without dislocation, on X-ray complete interruption of the beams
• III – complete fracture, partial dislocation, fragments joined, varus inclination of the head with displacement of the beam
• IV – complete fracture, complete dislocation, free fragments, head in the acetabulum, risk of avascular necrosis
