From WikiLectures

The most common indication is the collection of material for bacteriological examination .

It is most often performed on an intubated or tracheostomized patient. After introducing the suction tube into the respiratory tract, its end is connected to a sterile bottle, the stopper of which is perforated with two needles. One cone is connected to the suction coil, the other needle is connected to the normal suction. After the end of the suction, we first cancel the needle connected to the catheter.
