Bacterial virulence factors

Virulence is a feature of bacteria that expresses the level of pathogenicity. Pathogenicity is the ability of a bacterium to damage a host cell.

Virulence factors include:

  1. adhesins - allow bacteria to attach to host cells,
  2. invasins - help with the penetration of bacteria into the cells and tissues in the host,
  3. impedines
  4. modules.
