Anesthesia at the infraorbital foramen

Seductive anesthesia at the foramen infraorbitale (n. infraorbitalis) is advantageously used especially for larger-scale surgical interventions in the area of ​​incisors, canines and premolars of the upper jaw. It is more common for minor procedures (tooth preparation, extraction of one tooth). infiltration anesthesia.

Extent of anesthesia

The incisors, canines and premolars of the given half of the jaw and the adjacent vestibular mucosa, part of the maxillary sinus mucosa. In the area of ​​the second premolars, the effect of the anesthetic may not be 100%. Sometimes the mesiobuccal root of the first molar is also involved.

Execution

In the vast majority of cases, we use the "intraoral technique" of application:

• We identify the for by palpation. infraorbitale: With the index finger of the non-dominant hand, feel the center of the lower edge of the orbit and slide the finger 1 cm below it. Raise the upper lip with the thumb of the same hand inserted into the vestibule.
• We insert the injection needle into the vestibule and guide it along Black Line (junction of the incisor point and the outer edge of the orbit). We verify the position of the needle by palpating the index finger.
• After aspiration, we deposit before for. infraorbitale 1-1.5 ml anesthetic.

Extraoral method of application

• Palpation for. infraorbital.
• Injection site: 1 cm caudal from the lower edge of the orbit, first disinfect.
• After aspiration, we deposit before for. infraorbitale 1-1.5 ml anesthetic.

Onset of effect

• 3–5 minute.

Complications

Rarely:

• Positive aspiration 0.7% of cases.
• Lower eyelid hematoma. More often with the extraoral technique.
