Agglutinin structure

Agglutinins are antibodies whose binding to an antigen causes cell aggregation. Among the best known agglutinins are antibodies that occur in blood group systems. In the ABO system, antibodies are formed spontaneously several months after birth (IgM antibodies), or they can be formed after sensitization, for example after transfusion of incompatible blood (IgG antibodies). In the Rh system (unlike the ABO system), agglutinins can only be formed after previous sensitization (IgG antibodies).
