Acromioclavicular articulation

Type of the joint: small-scale rigid joint (amphiarthrosis), a disccan be inserted.

Articulating surfaces: on the acromium and the acromial end of the clavicle, flat, oval.

Articular capsule: stiff, short, cranially thickened;

  • lig. acromioclaviculare – strengthens the upper side of the capsule.

Movements: small scale, complements the movements of the sternoclavicular joint.

Vessels and nerves of the joint:

  • a. thoracoacromialis;
  • nn. supraclaviculares laterales.
