Serratus anterior muscle

Origin: 1.–9. rib.

Insertion: medial edge scapulae, angulus inferior scapulae (4th–9th tooth).

Innervation: nervus thoracicus longus (C5–C7) – pars supraclavicularis plexus brachialis.

Function:

  • holding the scapula to the chest;
  • when pulling for a lower angle, turning the scapula outward;
  • auxiliary inspiratory muscle.
