Safety data sheet of chemical substances

From WikiLectures

All dangerous substances and dangerous preparations placed on the market must have safety data sheets prepared according to the law. These sheets contain a summary of all important information about the substance, such as the composition of the substance, instructions for providing first aid, measures for fire fighting, measures in case of accidental release, storage and other information related to the protection and safety of people.

The safety data sheet is dated and contains the following items:[1]

  1. identification of the substance/preparation and the company/enterprise;
  2. hazard identification;
  3. composition/information on ingredients;
  4. first aid instructions;
  5. fire fighting measures;
  6. accidental release measures;
  7. handling and storage;
  8. omezování expozice/osobní ochranné prostředky;
  9. physical and chemical properties;
  10. stability and reactivity;
  11. toxicological information;
  12. environmental information;
  13. disposal instructions;
  14. shipping information;
  15. regulatory information;
  16. more information.

Each participant in the supply chain that is required to produce a chemical safety report shall list the relevant exposure scenarios (including use and exposure categories, where applicable) in an annex to the safety data sheet covering the identified uses and special conditions.

Employers must allow workers and their representatives access to information in the safety data sheets of substances or preparations that workers use or may be exposed to during their work.
