Your patient is prescribed 7.5 g of Tazocin to be given as intermittent infusion. The vial contains 4.5 g in form of dry powder. How many ml of diluent do you need to add to prepare medication and how many ml of prepared liquid do you need to draw up?

  • 2 vials needed; to add 3ml of diluent into each; to draw up 3ml from 1st and 2ml from 2nd vial
OR
  • 2 vials needed; to add 2ml of diluent into 1st and 3ml into 2nd vial; to draw up 2ml from 1st and 2ml from 2nd vial

Your patient is prescribed 1500 mg of Ampicilin to be given as intermittent infusion. The vial contains 1 g in form of dry powder. How many ml of diluent do you need to add to prepare medication and how many ml of prepared liquid do you need to draw up?

  • 2 vials needed; to add 4ml of diluent into each; to draw up 4ml from 1st and 2ml from 2nd vial
OR

Your patient is prescribed 1000 mg of Unasyn to be given i.v. The vial contains 1.5 g in form of dry powder. How many ml of diluent do you need to add to prepare medication and how many ml of prepared liquid do you need to draw up?

  • to add 9 ml of diluent and draw up 6 ml of prepared liquid
OR
  • to add 6 ml of diluent and draw up 4 ml of prepared liquid

Your patient is prescribed 900 mg of Amoksiclave to be given as intermittent infusion. The vial contains 1.2 g in form of dry powder. How many ml of diluent do you need to add to prepare medication and how many ml of prepared liquid do you need to draw up?

  • to add 8 ml of diluent and draw up 6ml of prepared liquid
OR
  • to add 4 ml of diluent and draw up 3ml of prepared liquid
