Neglect Syndrome

Neglect syndrome is characterized by disorientation in space with neglect (ignoring) of the left half of space. The sufferer thus rams into objects in the left half of the visual field, omits initial letters or the initial part of words when reading, without this being caused by hemianopsia. Primary motor and sensory functions are intact. It occurs in lesions of the parietal, temporal and sometimes frontal lobe of the non-dominant (mostly right) hemisphere.

At the same time, hemiasomatognosia may be present, i.e. left-sided hemiplegia, when the patient considers the left limbs to be foreign, belonging to someone else.
