musculi lumbricales pedis

Four muscles I–IV of the foot (numbered from the tibial side).

Origin: medial to the tendons of the flexor digitorum longus muscle

Insertion: dorsal aponeurosis 2.–5. finger


Innervation:

  • I, II – n. plantaris medialis (L5–S1);
  • III, IV – n. plantaris lateralis (both branches of the tibial nerve)(S1–S2)

Functions: flexion of the metatarsophalangeal joints, extension of the interphalangeal joints
