Medial pterygoid muscle

Beginning: fossa pterygoidea and tuber maxillae.

Attachmenr: tuberositas pterygoidea to angulus mandibulae (inner surface).

Innervation: n. pterygoideus medialis (3rd branch of the trigeminal nerve).

Function:

  • bilateral action – elevation of the mandible;
  • unilateral action – mandible pull to the opposite side.
