Masseter muscle

Origin: zygomatic arch.

Insertion: superficial part of angle of mandible and tuberosity of masseter, deep part to the center of the outer surface ramus mandible.

Innervation: masseteric nerve (3. branch trigeminal).

Function: mandibular elevation; the superficial part of the protraction and the deep part of the retraction of the mandible.
