Management in nursing[edit | edit source]

It uses the conceptual apparatus of general management. It applies theoretical principles of management and personnel management to the management and leadership of nursing care and nursing staff. The goal is to create conditions for the provision of quality nursing care.

Nursing management[edit | edit source]

It can be understood as nursing process management , a systematic rational method of planning and providing nursing care. The nurse plans it and partially executes it. Some activities are entrusted to other staff (medical assistant). The term management is used in medical and nursing care in conjunction with eg pain management, wound care management . Nursing management performs the function of leadership, control and decision-making within work groups of nurses (nursing team). It includes processes based on general management such as planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling.

Nursing management defines the concept of nursing [1]:

The highest methodological link in the field is the Ministry of Health. The relevant professional department methodically manages and controls nursing in the Czech Republic. It comments on all essential professional, organizational, economic and legislative measures that relate to nursing and the work of nursing staff in the field of health and social care. Its competence is to set up and establish working groups and commissions, which fulfill the function of advisory bodies in solving the problems of the field and prepare documents for the development of the field. Members of working groups and commissions are representatives of nursing practice, professional organizations and representatives of educational institutions. In individual institutional facilities, nursing care is managed by a deputy for nursing care/head nurse. (Concept of nursing. Journal of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic, volume 9, published September 2004 ))

Organizational structure[edit | edit source]

Organizations that have a large number of subordinate employees are arranged in a so-called organizational pyramid . The organizational structure can be flat (department, ambulance, home care agency) or multi-level (hospital, clinic). In a formal organizational structure, relationships between superiors, subordinates and colleagues are fixed, managers are appointed to positions, communication networks, performance standards and a hierarchy of functions performed by individuals are established.
