Joints of the hand

Articulationes manus include the following joints:

Articulatio radiocarpalis

• articulating surfaces: facies articularis carpalis radii, proximal row of ossa carpi ( os scaphoideum , os lunatum , os triquetrum ), discus articularis
• the radius directly articulates with the ossa carpi
• between the ulna and the ossa carpi is the discus articularis
• meniscoid process

Articulatio mediocarpalis

• articulating surfaces: os scaphoideum, os lunate, os triquetrum form a socket for os capitatum , os hamatum ; os trapezium , os trapezoideum form a socket for the distal part of the os scaphoideum
• the shape of a recumbent S

Articulatio ossis pisiformis

• stiff joint
• articulating surfaces: os pisiforme , os triquetrum
• the flexor carpi ulnaris tendon emerges from the os pisiforme
• the flexor carpi ulnaris tendon is divided into 2 ligaments

1. lig. pisohamatum (to hamulus ossis hamati)
2. lig. pisometacarpale (to the base of the 4th + 5th metacarpals)

Articulationes intercarpales

• joints with little mobility between the carpal bones of one row
• ligamenta intercarpalia interossea

Articulationes carpometacarpales

• articulating surfaces: distal row of carpal bones, base of metacarpal bones

Art. carpometacarpalis pollicis

• saddle joint
• articulating surfaces: basis ossis metacarpi I, os trapezium
• movements: palmar flexion, dorsiflexion, abduction, adduction, rotation, opposition, reposition

Articulationes intermetacarpales

• connection 2.-5. metacarpus
• interosseous metacarpal ligaments

• 
  Ligaments of the wrist from the front.
• 
  Posterior wrist ligaments.
• 
  An incision guided by the joints of the wrist .
