Introduction to Nursing

Nursing Definition[edit | edit source]

Nursing is an independent scientific discipline focused on actively searching for and satisfying the biological, psychological and social needs of sick and healthy people in the care of their health (Journal of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic 9/2004).

Nursing Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • support and consolidate health,
  • participate in the recovery of health,
  • alleviate the suffering of a sick person,
  • ensure a peaceful dying and a dignified death.

Distinctive features of nursing[edit | edit source]

  • provision of active nursing care,
  • provision of individualized care through the nursing process,
  • provision of nursing care based on scientific findings supported by research,
  • a holistic approach to the patient,
  • preventive nature of care,
  • provision of care by a nursing team composed of differently qualified workers (multi-stage method).
