Examination of the taxa of the lower limbs

The taxa examination is used to assess cerebellar function. It is performed by inviting the patient to lie on his/her back and, without checking his/her eyesight, touch the heel of one foot to the knee of the other foot and bring the heel down to the instep. We observe the trajectory and targeting of the movement .

When there is poor coordination of movements and overshooting, we speak of ataxia.
