Facial sensory innervation
Sensory innervation of the face

Sensory - n. trigeminus. It is evaluated by palpation at the site of exits of the branches of the trigeminal nerve (foramen supraorbitale, foramen infraorbitale, foramen mentale) – palpation is painful during affectations.

    • n. infraorbitalis;
    • n. mentalis.

Motorn. facialis.

Bell's palsy symptoms
Bell's palsy - drooping corner, smoothed nasolabial groove, inability to wrinkle the forehead

Malfunction -

  • Central: Stroke – Paralysis of the lower branch of the n. facialis, extermination of sulcus nasolabialis, drooping corner.
  • Peripheral: Bell's diseaseParalysis and upper branches of the n. facialis – can not bend the forehead, pinch the eyelids, symptom of the pipe.

Examination - We ask the patient to frown (and wrinkle his forehead), inflate his cheeks, brush his teeth and whistle. If the innervation is damaged, it will not be able to handle these actions.
