Epicanthus

Epicanthus

Epicanthus is the name for the skin fold that covers the inner corner of the eye. This skin fold is normal in some races (especially Asians), but in a whole range of clinical syndromes, epicanthus (more or less) is a typical dysmorphic phenotypic feature. Epicanthus is typical especially in Down syndrome, but it also occurs in fetal alcohol syndrome, Williams syndrome, Noonan syndrome or Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome.
