Haploid vs. diploid set of chromosomes.

Diploid refers to a cell or organism containing two sets of chromosomes, i.e. both chromosomes for each chromosomal pair. In humans, all somatic cells are diploid and contain 46 chromosomes (22 pairs of autosomes and one pair of gonosomes (sex chromosomes)).
