Difusion, 1. law of Fick

Diffusion: The movement of molecules from high concentration to low concentration

Concentration Gradient: The difference in concentration of solute per unit of distance.

3 Laws:

  1. Henry's Law: A gas law that states the amount of dissolved gas is proportional to its partial pressure in the gas phase [Concentration of dissolved gas] = [Henry's Constant] x Partial pressure of gas above solution]
  2. Graham's Law of Effusion: The lighter molecules are, the faster, they will travel, the faster they diffuse
  3. 3. FIck's Law of Diffusion: Equation that helps us calculate the velocity of diffusion or how many particles diffuse per unit time through some area. The equation can be seen here, where "D" is the diffusion coefficient, "n" is the number of moles. "A" is the area through that diffusion takes place. And "T" is time. A negative sign appears in the equation due to the fact that the direction of diffusion is opposite to that of the concentration gradient.
