Basal cells

Multi-rowed columnar epithelium

These are low cylindrical cells of multi-rowed columnar epithelium, the apical part of which does not reach the lumen . They have one oval nucleus curled up against the basement membrane, most of the nuclei at this height belong to the basal cells, which makes them easy to find. Basal cells form a reserve of undifferentiated precursors , which, if necessary, can mature into goblet and ciliated cells.
