Threonine

Threonine is an essential amino acid most commonly broken down by threonine aldolase to glycine and acetaldehyde, which is further converted to acetate and acetyl-CoA. Its L-form is a biogenic amino acid, one of the basic building blocks of proteins. Threonine is a polar amino acid with two chiral carbons.
