Summary

Description
English: This illustration depicts a photomicrographic view of a carbol-fuchsin stained culture specimen from a patient with subacute conjunctivitis, and revealed the presence of numerous Moraxella lacunata bacteria. M. lacunata is a known cause of blepharoconjunctivitis in humans, involving infections of the eye’s conjunctival membrane convering its surface, and the eyelids. Moraxella bacteria are commensal in nature, and are normally found inhabiting the mucosal linings of the human body. They are also known to be the cause of opportunistic infections at time when the body’s immune defenses have been compromised.
