Summary
| Description |
An unusually "clean" cervix, with little or no inflammatory/reactive change, from a hysterectomy specimen. The squamocolumnar junction marks the boundary between the squamous-lined exocervix and the columnar-lined endocervix. This is also the area where most precancerous lesions of the cervix develop, so it needs to be thoroughly sampled in the Pap smear collection procedure. |
