Amoeba with stalks

A stalk is a simple organ used for movement. In the case of cells, the protrusion of the membrane, that precedes the cell during its movement is referred to as such. The protrusions of the membrane that surround the phagocytosed material and enclose the phagosome are also referred to as pseudopodia.
