Deutsch: Die möglicherweise erste Darstellung menschlicher Chromosomen. Einzelne Zellen aus der Augenhornhaut (Cornea). Originallegende: "Einige aus vielen gesehenen Theilungen aus der menschlichen Cornea, cop. aus 38, Chromsäure-Safranin." Mit '38' ist eine frühere Arbeit aus dem Jahr 1881 gemeint. (Walther Flemming, Beiträge zur Kenntnis der Zelle und ihrer Lebenserscheinungen, Th. III)
English: Possibly the oldest drawing of human chromosomes. Translation of the original figure legend from 1882: "Some of many seen divisions in the human Cornea, cop. from 38, chromic acid-Safranin." 38 refers to a publication from W. Flemming from 1881. (see German legend above for details).
